How to sanitize your Pilates gym

Sanitizing and disinfecting is key in an environment such as a fitness center. At a Pilates gym, several types of equipment, materials, and surfaces are touched by the people who are exercising. . If and when an infected person touches said surfaces, they leave small traces of the virus. Unlike other viruses like HIV, which die almost instantly upon contact with air, the coronavirus can remain viable on surfaces for hours.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has been the worst lifestyle disruptor in the last decade. In addition to killing millions of people, Coronavirus has halted businesses and interrupted daily routines. Due to a series of Government Restrictions,  people have largely been forced to stay at home. This has meant that going to the gym, taking Pilates class or yoga have all been interrupted

Many governments worldwide unrolled plans at the close of 2020, outlining the gradual reopening of businesses and social places such as gyms.

The plan involved a set of unique and specific instructions to prevent the coronavirus from spreading while still allowing people to continue their everyday activities. Such measures have included wearing masks, social distancing, and sanitizing surfaces.

Gyms are required to follow these guidelines to stop the virus from spreading. It is therefore essential to note proper ways of sanitizing gyms.

How sanitizing surfaces helps

Sanitizing and disinfecting is key in an environment such as a fitness center. At a Pilates gym, several types of equipment, materials, and surfaces are touched by the people who are exercising. . If and when an infected person touches said surfaces, they leave small traces of the virus. Unlike other viruses like HIV, which die almost instantly upon contact with air, the coronavirus can remain viable on surfaces for hours.

Studies conducted by pathology experts at several universities in the United States, including Stanford Research Center — found that the coronavirus can remain on metal surfaces like steel for up to 3 days.
Wipes containing Quaternary Ammonium are a great way to sanitize surfaces and kill

the Coronavirus. Our very own Sanidry EPA Registered Disinfecting Wipes are capable of killing 99.9% of these viruses, thus eliminating the risk of infection. Experts recommend regular sanitization of surfaces to effectively eliminate the virus. Also, the use of BioQuatt One-Step cleaning and disinfectant on surfaces will help in the sanitizing process. Business owners should be aware that wipes and other spray disinfectants are only effective if the surface is completely wet upon application.

Where to sanitize in a Pilates Gym

A Pilates gym does not usually have much equipment like those found in a regular gym. However, there are several surfaces and equipment that one should be keen to sanitize. These include:

  • Mats
  • Reformers
  • Sunday
  • Cadillac
  • Magic Circles
  • The High Chair
  • Floors

How to sanitize surfaces and equipment

  1. It is essential to obtain the correct sanitizer, (BioQuatt or Sanidry Wipes are an option), which you will use to sanitize the surfaces.
  2. If there are several Pilates sessions for your business per day, sanitize all equipment, floors, and walls after each session. Since Pilates exercises are usually done while lying on the back, it is more than likely that members will touch walls and floors with their hands.
  3. To properly sanitize equipment such as mats, reformers, and magic circles, obtain a bottle sprayer such as the one used for cleaning surfaces at home. Pour the sanitizer into the sprayer bottle. Hold the bottle sprayer some distance away from the equipment, squeeze the nozzle to release the liquid while aiming at the equipment. Wipe off the surfaces with a clean piece of cloth while ensuring each point on the equipment’s surface gets some of the liquid.
  4. When cleaning the floor and walls, use a disinfecting sprayer.  If you are unsure of where to get one, check out online stores for agriculture-related products. You may need to dilute the sanitizer. Using the sprayer, aim the nozzle to the floor and walls. Ensure to spray under heavy equipment, crevices, door handles, and water taps in the bathroom. This procedure should be repeated after each Pilates session or every day after the closing of the business.
